Will our marriage be legally recognised in our home country?

If you follow the requirements for a legal marriage in Turkey, your wedding will be recognized in your own country – however, it will not be registered in your country (see legal information for more detail). There is an optional process in place for UK citizens – you can make a ‘Marriage Deposit’ at a UK consulate or embassy in Turkey after your marriage, for a nominal fee. There is no time limit for completing this, and in some cities you may not be able to do it for several weeks after your wedding due to the timing of the local council registering your wedding with the local court house - you could do this on a subsequent trip to Turkey. This process makes it easier for your marriage records to be located by a Uk-based lawyer, should you wish to dissolve it in the future.
